City of Winter Garden presents:

Shop, Dine, & Stroll – March 27th

Sidewalk Sale in Celebration of National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day!
All-Day (Open to Close)
Location: Winter Garden Downtown Historic District, 300 W. Plant St.

The Love Local campaign, launched by the City of Winter Garden last fall, continues in 2021 with a line-up of programs and activities to help small businesses recover from financial losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The intent of the Love Local campaign is to build awareness of the importance of shopping and dining local to support small businesses and community organizations that are vital to the city.

Winter Garden is well-known for its small town charm – and it’s no surprise with the plethora of mature trees and beautiful flowers to the authentic historic brick buildings that line the city’s downtown area. Winter Garden also features an award-winning farmers market and is home to many one-of-a-kind locally owned restaurants, unique shops, art, and entertainment. Local businesses are the heart and soul of Winter Garden, and they need our support.

Each and every one of us can have an impact. Every time you make a purchase, you are making an impact. Choose to go to a local restaurant over a national chain. Shop at local boutiques instead of big-box retailers. Shopping online and at national chains is convenient, but when you support local businesses, you are strengthening the backbone of a community. According to the organization Independent We Stand, for every $100 spent at local businesses, $68 will stay in the community. Whereas only $43 remains in the community when shopping at a national chain.

From now through the summer, the Love Local campaign will include monthly activities and programs that support local businesses and community organizations and on Saturday,
March 27th, Downtown Winter Garden and Citywide will celebrate “Shop, Dine, & Stroll”.

Shop, Dine, & Stroll – Saturday, March 27th

In celebration of National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day, come out to an outdoor shopping and dining experience to support the independently owned businesses that make Downtown Winter Garden so unique! The nationally observed holiday serves an even greater purpose this year as small businesses strive to recover from the pandemic.

March’s ideal weather makes it the perfect time to stroll the charming streets, shops, and outdoor dining areas. Peruse the outdoor sales racks, fresh spring apparel, accessories and home goods to get ready for the new season. The independently owned shops will also feature in-store and online specials/promotions, as well as curbside delivery.

Take a shopping break to enjoy freshly prepared menu items and beverages at Downtown’s one-of-a-kind eateries, and grab a seat at one of the many outdoor umbrella tables that line the historic streets to enjoy a side of Florida sunshine.

Shop, Dine & Stroll will be held rain or shine. Sales, special offers, delivery methods, and operating hours vary per merchant. For more information, visit www.downtownwg.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-shop-dine-stroll.

Inside Look: Happy Hour at Big Fin Seafood Kitchen

Big Fin Seafood Kitchen, an award-winning seafood restaurant located in the Dellagio Town Center on Sand Lake Road’s “Restaurant Row” is one of the most popular spots for locals and tourist during Magical Dining every year. But did you know they also have an amazing happy hour every day from 5-7pm?  They sure do!

We were invited to experience Big Fin’s new happy hour menu by their new Executive Chef Eric Enrique, formerly of Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, and we enjoyed our food, friendly service, and upscale causal environment.

First Look: Loading…Gastrobrunch Restaurant in Historic Downtown St. Cloud, Florida

Loading…Gastrobrunch restaurant is a hidden gem located in historic downtown St. Cloud, just a short drive away from Orlando, south of Lake Nona and east of Kissimmee.

I didn’t even know there was a historic downtown St Cloud – but it does appear that downtown St. Cloud is experiencing a bit of a renaissance lately with new hotels and other developments in the works – understandable since there have been quite a few new residential developments in the area recently.

Owned by friends James Brady, Matt Rody and Jahnae Allen, Loading…Gastrobrunch restaurant also serves as the in-house dining option for the recently renovated adjacent Hunter Arms hotel.

The owners of Loading… are all veterans of the local restaurant industry including Disney World and Universal Orlando with a focus on service and ambiance. They opened in 2020 during the pandemic so word is just getting out now about the place.

The menu, led by chef Vaughn Collins features “Spaniflora” (Spanish and Florida style) influenced dishes, breakfast and brunch items, and a newly expanded dinner menu. Chef Vaughn Collins hails from the storied kitchens of Charleston, South Carolina, so you know their shrimp and grits and other Southern influenced dishes will be top notch. The stone ground corn grits are sourced all from local St. Cloud area Mick Farms.

I had the shrimp n’ grits here on a recent visit and it was one of the best renditions I have had, creamy corn grits with a savory pork a la minute sauce and full of fresh and plump local shrimp.

The brunch items like the cinnibun French Toast and the Spaniflora chicken chorizo waffle tacos are also quite the delight.

Inside Look: Taste of EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival 2021

Spring has finally sprung in Central Florida, and as we wave the chilly winter months goodbye we also welcome the Taste of EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival back to the Walt Disney World Resort.

More than 20 outdoor kitchens are scattered throughout the park during this festival, offering guests a delicious variety of spring-themed eats. This year, you’ll notice a heightened emphasis on sustainability, from the food to the merchandise. The festival began March 3 and will run until July 5, 2021.

GoFundMe Campaign – Help Bring Local Orlando Snacks to Orange County Convention Vaccination Workers

"At the Orange County Convention Center’s vaccination site we have lots of EMS and health dept folks out there. They welcome any snacks/food drop offs - if any place ever wants to drop off anything as a thank you or a treat or something, they are more than willing to have them there. And it always helps morale. The team can’t really go anywhere because of time constraints.   It'll be a gesture and is such a great morale thing since the site is staffed 6 days per week for 12 hours a day. "

This week , Tien Hung Market / Banh Mi Boy’s Benjamin Phan delivered over 200 Vietnamese Spring Rolls and gallons of Vietnamese coffee to support the Orange County Convention Center vaccination workers. Tien Hung is one of the oldest Vietnamese owned markets in Orlando located in the historic Mills 50 District. for more info visit https://gofund.me/eb14f7ad
